Supporting brokers through the HSBC transfer

What you need to know right now to help customers.

Three facts to anchor every customer conversation

HSBC to sell Australian loan portfolio

The proposed sale of HSBC’s Australian home and personal loan portfolio to Blackstone remains subject to regulatory and competition approvals.

Pepper Money will service HSBC loans

Following completion, expected in the first half of 2027, Pepper Money will support customers and brokers.

Nothing changes today

HSBC continues to own and service the loans until transfer. The interest rates, fees, discounts and repayments customers have with HSBC will transfer across to Pepper Money and they won’t be moved to Pepper Money’s advertised interest rates.

Customers do not need to act now.

Hear from Siobhan Williams, Head of Retail Broker at Pepper Money, who talks more about the transfer to Pepper Money and what this means you for your customers.

How customers can manage their loan after the transfer

After HSBC loan servicing moves to Pepper Money, customers will still be able to manage it in the same way, with access to the tools and support they need.

Online and mobile access

They’ll still be able to access their loan online and via mobile. We’ll provide information before and after the transfer about how to access and manage home loans online.

Payments and direct debits

In most cases, the repayment arrangements will continue without any changes as a result of the transfer. If repayments are currently made from a HSBC account, HSBC may contact the customer closer to the transition if a new direct debit arrangement is needed.

Redraw

If redraw is available on a current Australian dollar home loan, customers will continue to have access after the transfer. Redraw allows customers to access extra repayments made above the required repayments, in line with the loan terms and conditions.

Statements

After loans transfer, we’ll provide statements on a half yearly basis for the loan from the transfer date onwards. We’ll also be able to help customers access historical statements.

Fixed rate loans

Customers on a fixed-rate home loan will continue under their existing fixed-rate contract and loan terms. Their interest rate, repayment arrangements and applicable fixed-rate expiry date will transfer with the loan.

At expiry, the loan reverts to a standard variable reference rate, separate from Pepper Money’s standard variable reference rate, plus any HSBC product margin discount as detailed in the customer’s Letter of Offer (or Letter of Variation) will continue to apply after the transfer.

Interest-only loans

If a customer is on an interest-only loan, the current arrangements will continue in line with the existing loan terms and conditions. Any requests to extend an interest-only period will be subject to eligibility and credit assessment.

Non-resident customers

Loans will continue to be supported after the transfer. Pepper Money has experience with this loan type, including through the previous transfer of the HSBC New Zealand home loan portfolio.

Financial hardship support

Support is available before and after the transfer if a customer is having trouble making repayments. If they need support before the transfer, they should contact HSBC. After the transfer, any existing hardship arrangements will be honoured by Pepper Money and financial hardship assistance options will be available.

Offset accounts

  • There are no changes to HSBC offset accounts today
  • Customers with a HSBC offset account linked to their home loan will have the option to access a Pepper Money offset sub-account after transfer.
  • More information will be provided before transfer, including options for transferring offset balances.
